Michel Mulder (bass)
Born on February 12, 1968 in the far east of Holland, and after having to suffer classical piano lessons, the first attraction to bass came by hearing Bruce Foxton of The Jam pounding out 'Town called Malice' in the mid 80's. Around the same time Paul Young's version of 'Where ever I lay my hat' with Pino Palladino on a fretless bass was played on the radio which started a quest for that amazing sound. When finally able to buy the first bass (a plywood short scale with only 2 ragged strings left), and no clue of tunings, the musical carrier could take off, and pretty soon the first bands just had to be formed.
It was in these first high school bands that many exciting and new albums were discovered, and after hearing the virtuosity of Geddy lee (Rush), the melodic approach of Jack Bruce (Cream), and the drive of Dusty Hill (ZZ top) it became obvious: the best thing to do in life would be playing bass....!
In the early 90's, after being even more inspired by hearing Jeff Berlin and Les Claypool (Primus) the interest in the possibilities of bass led to a study at the Hilversum Conservatory, where also the acoustic double bass had to be conquered.
After living in the South of France for a while, the jobs came in more frequently, and since '95 it was possible to make a living out performing & recording as a freelance bass player.
Some events since then: received a 'Music Maker-award' in the finale of the 'Grote Prijs van Nederland’ in 1995 for 'best bass player'; playing live music shows for Veronica Television for a while; working with/for the John Hayes Project, Rich Wyman, Sue Chaloner Soul Train, Jessie Galante, Oberg, Cees Meerman, Coen Wolters Band, Eric Corton, Erik v/d Hoff; teaming up with drummers as Hans Eijkenaar, Rene Creemers, Nico Groen, Jusso Whistler, Rob Snijders and Ramon Rambeaux.
Inspiration is coming from the legacy of the legendary Motown hero 'Saint' James Jamerson : trying to put his spirit, soul, musical approach and heritage into today's contemporary music.
Currently living in Germany, just across the Dutch border, rebuilding a former horse farm into a house/studio and also taking care of the cattle. This combining with teaching at the Arnhem school of music, and of course playing with Tony, trying to make each show the best one ever!
